US-59 covers the thirty miles in about forty minutes; our enclosed transport covers the ranch gates, barn thresholds, and river-bottom two-tracks that the freeway doesn't. The Brazos bottoms hold moisture the way the county holds history — thoroughly. Barn-stored Richmond cars breathe damp river air year-round, and the standard findings follow: floors and cab corners gone soft, fuel systems varnished, wiring annotated by generations of field mice, and the occasional high-water story written in silt lines.
